What the profile photo cropper does
The cropper keeps a square frame fixed while you move and zoom the source photo. Destination presets set an output size and preview shape, but the downloaded file remains square so the destination can apply its own mask.

Choose a destination first, then drag the person into the square and zoom only as far as needed. Use the circle preview to keep a face away from the edges; the downloaded file is still square.
If the result looks soft or off-centre
Start from the largest available original, centre the photo, and reduce the output size when possible. The tool cannot restore detail that was outside the crop or missing from a small source image.
